Education

The Sai Spiritual Education (SSE) Program at the Boston Sai Baba Center conducts classes and other activities for children in the Center. Students are divided into various groups based on their grade:

Grades 01 - 03 : Group I

Grades 04 – 06 : Group II

Grades 07 - 09 : Group III

Grades 10 – 12 : Group IV

The Curriculum is based on the five human values of Truth, Right Conduct, Peace, Non Violence and Love.  Lessons also lay emphasis on the Unity of all Faiths.  In addition to class based lessons, equal importance is given to Life Application of these human values through practice in every day life. Each year, children also get an opportunity to participate in cultural programs, such as plays and musicals that highlight the human values and sub values they studied during the year in their SSE classes.

As recommended by the Sathya Sai Spiritual Education guidelines in the USA, prescribed manuals and methods of teaching are used to ensure maximum benefit to the children. The various teaching tools employed are: Silent Sitting/Meditation, Prayer, Devotional Singing, Story Telling, Group Activities, Life Applications and Affirmations.

Parental involvement in the SSE program is encouraged, to enhance the experience and practice of human values in each child in the program. Such involvement is also necessary for the regular attendance of the children in SSE classes.

Teachers in the SSE program undergo training before volunteering to teach in the classrooms. Regular refresher training programs are conducted to ensure that teachers share their experiences and add to their skills in conducting SSE classes and other activities.

A quarterly parent-teacher meeting will be scheduled by the SSE co-ordinator to inform the parents about various SSE activities and take suggestions. An email will be sent by the SSE teachers/co-ordinator regarding the timing and location of the meeting. These meetings help the teachers to tailor the SSE program to the needs to the student so parents are requested to attend these meetings.
